Who We Are The Durand Group is a fraternal association of individuals who have voluntarily undertaken to work together to further research and investigation of military-related subterranean features including: military mining systems; tunnels; subways; dugouts and bunkers; and other underground structures.
The Group currently numbers about 30 members with a wide range of skills drawn from both civilian occupations and the military. The Honorary President is Lord Astor of Hever (a Grandson of Field Marshal Earl Haig). The Group is named after an abandoned fougasse mine, originally laid to support the Canadian attack on Vimy Ridge in 1917, and in 1998 rendered inert by one of the Groups EOD specialists.
The logo shows a fiery-winged dragon, representing the power of the explosive mines used in the First World War. The dragon is poised within a tunnel, the roof of which forms the Group title. The motto is Ubique Sub Terra (Everywhere Underground). |
